Switching-to-e-cigsOpt

E Cigs the truth about them differs depending where you look for the information. MyCiggy have complied the benefits of them below, oh.. and a few facts too! As regular cigarette smokers, switching traditional brands and considering the alternatives can be a traumatic experience. Just moving into unfamiliar territory is a cause of concern for most individuals mainly due to their lack of understanding. We find that reassurance from knowledgeable sources regarding the benefits of switching manages to quell the majority of their concerns.

All MyCiggy Staff are trained to address our Customers concerns in an informative and knowledgeable manner, gleaned not only from our ongoing training process but also as a result of their own first-hand experience of smoking electronic cigarettes, having themselves switched from traditional cigarettes. Switching to E Cigarettes is possibly one of the more difficult decisions a smoker has to make other than the biggest decision of all, that being to Stop Smoking altogether.

As ex-smokers, who now 'vape', we are all too familiar with the problems involved if you wish to quit smoking. For, despite the exorbitant costs, all the bad press, the social exclusion (which if it involved circumstances not so socially unacceptable, would be classed as a blatant case of discrimination, worthy of media coverage) some people still enjoy smoking and accept the associated risks with doing so.

Smoking eases the pressure of every-day living, helps gather ones thoughts, provides a welcome distraction, finishes a meal off nicely, goes hand in hand with drinking and enhances the odd chocolate bar. Smoking is a great stress reliever was used as a tool for socialising, long before Facebook or Twitter and the like were ever conceived.

Then, almost overnight, smoking became not only unacceptable but banned in all public places. Bars, Pubs and Clubs previously hubs of the community were decimated and went into decline. The loss of the ‘regular’ smokers hit the bottom line, drink prices had to rise to cover over-heads and drinking at home evolved and became the norm to such an extent that in excess of 31 pubs are now closing each and every week.

The vast majority of those interested in Electronic Cigarettes are current smokers wishing to switch to a less harmful alternative or use them as part of their own stop smoking strategy. Chances are, by reading this, you are one of them – you are searching for an alternative and want to understand the benefits before switching from your current brand.

Many consider e-cigs a less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes because of the many benefits they have to offer over tobacco based cigarette “smoking”. Firstly their use replicates the physical act of smoking giving a psychological advantage over the use of chewing gum or sticking patches on ones arm. The smoking procedure habit is maintained, the draw and inhalation of vapour is identical to that of a conventional cigarette as is the first ‘throat hit’ but  … we like to think the taste is far superior to that of traditional cigarettes!!

We invite you to continue reading about the leading 5 benefits electronic smoking has over traditional cigarettes…these benefits are a result of customer feedback as well as numerous scientific studies covering both traditional and E Cigarettes.

#1 – E Cigarettes do NOT have an offensive odour

Just about anyone knows – cigarettes smell and ashtrays smell even worse …It’s their hallmark! Odour from cigarette smoke gets into and clings onto just about anything it comes in contact with – your hair, your clothes and your car – anything. Not only does the odour cling, many consider cigarette smell offensive and avoid close contact.  If you’re a smoker, you don’t notice it so much as a result of being immersed in it all of the time, but your children do as do their friends at school. I remember my daughter coming home from school one day crying because her friends accused her of smoking, it wasn’t her of course but my cigarette smoke had tainted her clothes and hair, poor kid.

A smokers sense of smell is deadened, along with their sense of taste but to non-smokers, and especially ex-smokers, this smell is very noticeable and in some cases is highly offensive. One reason cigarette smoke smells so bad is because you’re burning tar and chemicals in addition to the tobacco itself. Properties from burning these substances make them cling to clothing, hair, walls, furniture, teeth and breath!! E-cigarettes on the other hand do not have this lingering odour because instead of exhaling smoke, you are exhaling a vapour that evaporates almost immediately. Customers and non-smokers alike report the smell from an e-cigarette to be either non-existent or reminiscent of cotton candy or even pop tarts, it is certainly not offensive!! E-cigarettes certainly smell a whole lot better than traditional cigarettes.

#2 – Electronic smoking is MUCH, MUCH cheaper than traditional cigarettes. If you’re a smoker reading this, you can certainly relate to this point – cigarettes are expensive these days, exorbitantly so.

In 1980, you could buy a good quality pack of cigarettes for £1.50. By the 90s, the cost had risen to £2.50, on average. Today, a good quality pack of cigarettes will cost you anywhere from £7 to £10 depending on what you smoke and where you buy them. One thing is for certain, they are not going to get any cheaper.

Some of this increase in cost can be attributed to regular inflation or rising prices of production (tobacco) and even distribution (fuel), but in the main it is a result of Government Taxes raised annually in the guise of getting people to Stop Smoking.

Any-one with a modicum of sense realises that this is just lip service for if every smoker in the UK were to stop smoking overnight in line with their wishes the Chancellor of the Exchequer would lose in excess of £10Billion/pa in tobacco revenue. Where would that income then come from? A 20/day smoker can spend in excess of £250 each month! And this doesn’t include the cost of other incidentals such as lighters, ash trays, additional dry cleaning, burns to furniture, carpets, coffee table tops and much more.

Using E Cigarettes negates these problem areas and while the entry cost of a starter kit may seem high the initial outlay is quickly recouped as the month-to-month cost of electronic smoking is typically about one tenth the cost of smoking traditional cigarette. Clearomisers and batteries form the bulk of this expense, which averages out around £20 per month dependant on how much you choose to vape. Currently, e-cigarettes are not subject to any sort of taxes like traditional smokes are. Also, as the technology develops and becomes more mainstream, the running costs will continue to decline (…think all electronic goods, etc.).

#3 – E Cigarettes are a less harmful alternative "Smoking remains the biggest cause of preventable illness and premature death in the UK.” Since you are “burning” tobacco and using a naked flame to ignite it, traditional cigarettes do pose serious fire hazards. Cigarettes are in fact the #1 cause of fire-related death in the United States and 7 other countries. Worldwide, fires started by lit cigarettes constitute 10% of all fire-related deaths, in the UK 50% of accidental fire deaths are smoking related. E-cigarettes rely on a battery powered heater element deep within the Clearomiser, it is this heater that vaporizes the e-liquid, there is no open flame or red hot glowing ember that can burn you, your clothes, your furniture, and so on.

Whilst there have been numerous scare stories related to ‘exploding e-cigarettes’ the causes have been determined to be primarily a result of using incorrectly rated wall chargers to recharge the E Cig battery. Until battery technology progresses further we would strongly advise using a wall charger not exceeding 5vDC and 480/500mAh to recharge your ECig, some wall chargers associated with a fruity phone now kick out 2000mAh, way too high, use them and you are asking for trouble. We would always recommend that e-Cig batteries are not left un-attended whilst charging, i.e. over-night, but for those who still remain unconvinced or prefer to do so, MyCiggy sell explosion proof/fire retardant bags which totally enclose the e-cig against an unforeseen occurrence.

#4 – Health. While we can’t make the claim that E Cigarettes are healthier but we can state they are a less harmful alternative and point out how traditional cigarettes are more harmful your health. You don’t have to take our word for it – there are countless studies out there showing how smoking traditional cigarettes can put you at a higher risk of a whole host of conditions, including (but not limited to) – stroke, heart attack, lung cancer, throat cancer, pneumonia, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, and countless others.

Traditional cigarettes contain a litany of chemicals as well, many of which are considered carcinogenic, or cancer causing. Many of our customers have reported feeling better physically after switching to electronic smoking, their morning coughs having gone and their sense of smell and taste having returned.

#5 – Social Acceptance. Last but not least are the social impacts of traditional cigarettes, which is in a way related to reasons one through four. Over the years, smoking has increasingly been viewed negatively by society at-large for a variety of reasons. The smell, the health consequences, and even the healthcare costs all combine to give traditional cigarettes a bad name these days. If you’re a smoker, you’ve certainly noticed an increasing amount of restrictions around where you can light up, even at private parties where the host is a non-smoker.

Also, traditional cigarettes impact upon your social life, literally. Take dating for an example - it’s pretty rare these days for a non-smoker to be with a smoker. Smoking can also impact on your job prospects … more employers are taking a more critical stance toward traditional cigarette smokers, every trip outside costs the company money and lost production of between 1-1½ hours/day for each employee who smokes, 5 smokers? Well you do the sums, answers on a postcard please!

And don’t think your work colleagues are oblivious to your absences, why should they put in more hours than their smoking work-mates? They have a point don't they?? As you can see, e-cigarettes and electronic smoking carry many benefits over traditional smoking. Many have discovered how they can still enjoy smoking and get the nicotine they crave without using methods that are increasingly seen as intrusive and irresponsible.
